Software tool that allows the creation of annotative and analytic “information objects” that are durably associated with each video. The tool enables any participating researcher to structure the video, by selecting relevant start and stop time codes and to annotate these virtual clips with concepts specific to different disciplines, such as form of reasoning, language acquisition, etc. The annotation and analysis object will include access management metadata (XACML—extensible access control markup language) to enable researchers to limit access to annotations in order to support individual or collaborative research, where analyses could be kept temporarily private until publication of results in an article or dissertation. Researchers will have the ability to create standardized annotations and analyses in multiple academic disciplines and to add ontologies specific to disciplines not yet represented in the collaboratory. The analysis information object will enable both the capture of video analysis and of classroom observation, which might capture information out of range of the cameras.
