Rights Metadata for Embargoed ETDs

Project:RUetd
Version:2.1.0
Component:Code
Category:specification
Priority:normal
Assigned:chadmills
Status:closed
Description

If an ETD is embargoed, it will have an Embargo Period specified on the metadata/information form. That information should be recorded in the rights metadata as follows:

rulib:rightsMD
rulib:rightsEvent type="DRM implementation"
rulib:associatedObjects type="embargo"
rulib:detail

In the Detail, give the length of the embargo, e.g.:
rulib:detail 12 months

Comments

#1

Since embargoes are defined by the ETD system in days, will 365 days be suitable instead of 12 months?

#2

Yes, each of the embargo periods can be expressed in days:
1 month = 30 days
2 months = 60 days
3 months = 91 days
4 months = 121 days
5 months = 152 days
6 months = 182 days
7 months = 212 days
8 months = 242 days
9 months = 273 days
10 months = 303 days
11 months = 334 days
12 months = 365 days
15 months = 456 days
18 months = 547 days
2 years = 730 days

Done.

Added the rights event only when an embargo is requested. No embargo, no event. This event comes after the standard 'rightsEvent ID="1"' which is 'Permission or license.' Below is a sample of the rights event XML:

<rulib:rightsEvent ID="2" AUTHORITY="rulib">
    <rulib:type>DRM implementation</rulib:type>
    <rulib:associatedObject ID="1" AUTHORITY="rulib">
        <rulib:detail>365 days</rulib:detail>
    </rulib:associatedObject>
</rulib:rightsEvent>

#4

rulib:associatedObjects type="embargo" missing in the XML.

#5

Sorry, should be present now. Please test.
