Most Downloaded This Week is out of synch with email notification to author

Project:SOAR (Scholarly Open Access at Rutgers) Website
Version:1.0
Component:User interface
Category:bug report
Priority:critical

Description

Early each Monday morning (12 midnight, actually), email is sent to the authors of the ten most downloaded works the previous week. However, the list on the SOAR website, "Most Downloaded This Week", does not change until Tuesday morning. All day Monday, the author does not see her or his work on the list. The two should be synchronized.

A server-side cron job has been scheduled for Monday night at the same time that the RUcore update script is run for the top downloads. This should ensure that the top downloads list is updated ASAP with the latest info on SOAR. This new cron job should run starting on Monday September 21, 2015.

I change the status to test after verifying that the cron job did run.

#4

Today's list of "Most Downloaded This Week" is last week's list.

#5

It looks like the server-side cron job I requested to be added did not run on 9/21/15. I'm following up with the sysadmin to doublecheck if the script was set up correctly.

The top 10 downloaded list on soar.libraries was auto-updated on 9/28/15 at 12:00:15 a.m. by the server cron job.

Please verify that the listing that appears on soar.libraries is now up to date with the notifications.

Today is Tuesday. Can someone work with me (rmarker) to create a scenario to test this in the "test system"? Feel free to re-assign until we find the right person.

The script to update the most downloaded list can be run manually on the dev site to generate a listing of most downloaded from rucore-test.
I ran it today (<a href="https://dev7-oa.libraries.rutgers.edu/sites/default/libraries/top10.php" title="https://dev7-oa.libraries.rutgers.edu/sites/default/libraries/top10.php">https://dev7-oa.libraries.rutgers.edu/sites/default/libraries/top10.php</a>) but there was nothing reported from rucore-test.

I'm assigning to Chad to see if the script is or has been run on rucore-test.

We, as a group, will need to start downloading some items for SOAR to get the stats rolling. Anyone who is reading this and is interested please started downloading PDF's from the test/dev SOAR site from multiple submissions.

#10

If I download too many of one thing at a time in the test/dev system, will the statistics code will block me and re-set the download count? I downloaded something four times, and then stopped.

#11

Rhonda,

I have increased download times in config file. You should be OK now.

Some downloads were performed yesterday by various users. Both reports were run this morning. Results are attached.

Email job for most downloaded results is file "top10email.txt"

SOAR website job for most downloaded results is file "top10-site.xml"

Both lists are the same. The order of the results and the quantity of downloads are the same. There are a number of items with 2 downloads. Those order the same as well. For now I think we can say this is working as expected. I will move this issue over to Rhonda for a final look.

With fingers crossed, I am declaring this bug "fixed". Both jobs are scheduled to run at exactly the same time and both (now) seem to be counting the same set of downloads.
