Description

The Library of Congress announced the availability of MARCXML to MODS 3.5 (XSLT 1.0 Revision 1.105 and XSLT 2.0 Revision 2.22) at <a href="http://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/mods-conversions.html" title="http://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/mods-conversions.html">http://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/mods-conversions.html</a>. The MODS 3.5 XSLT is based on the latest MARC to MODS 3.5 mapping made available by LoC in October 2014 (<a href="http://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/mods-mapping.html" title="http://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/mods-mapping.html">http://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/mods-mapping.html</a>). -- Email 2014-11-21 from Tracy Meehleib (<a href="mailto:tmee@loc.gov">tmee@loc.gov</a>).

Please examine the revisions, confer with the IIS-Sirsi/Unicorn Cataloging web developer (Bob Warwick) to determine if we need to adjust our MARCXML export procedures, and recommend the RUcore release in which we can implement this latest MARC - MODS mapping and stylesheet.

Even though our descriptive metadata are made MODS compliant, we are currently not offering whole MODS metadata input form. What elements a user can see on the form are determined by specification from metadata group, not directly from MODS schema. If new version of MODS schema comes out and people think there should be new additions of certain new elements to the form, I will need specification on which elements to add from metadata group. When we have it, please don't forget to change the status to active. -YY
