Eliminate one click for downloading, printing, emailing, etc. selected items

Project:RUcore/NJDH/Partner Portal Search
Component:Searching - Service Agent
Category:feature request
Status:Moved to JIRA

Once a user selects some records using the checkboxes, s/he expects to see options for downloading, printing, emailing, etc. Instead, the user must intuit that s/he must click the 'x Selected Items' button to see those options (<a href="http://www.sciencedirect.com" title="http://www.sciencedirect.com">http://www.sciencedirect.com</a>). Users may not think to do that, and even if they do, it's an extra click that seems unnecessary. See Science Direct for another way to put choices closer to the marked boxes. One less click would be good. You can mark and then email or print, etc on one page.

Moving to 7.x.

This would require a major retooling of the select items feature and frankly that is beyond the scope of this release. At the same time this feature request diverges greatly from the initial implementation and cannot be easily targeted at one portal without creating a major fork in the code that is very undesirable.

I think this request needs to be vetted by the User Services group to come up with a holistic solution if having one extra click is really that problematic.

USAWG would like to have the feature included in all portals, as shown on page 2 of the specification:
<a href="https://rucore.libraries.rutgers.edu/collab/ref/spc_sawg_r7_3_select_items.pdf" title="https://rucore.libraries.rutgers.edu/collab/ref/spc_sawg_r7_3_select_items.pdf">https://rucore.libraries.rutgers.edu/collab/ref/spc_sawg_r7_3_select_ite...</a>

Both the "n" Selected Items" and the Save - Print - Email etc. on the Search Results screen.
