dlr/EDIT/sqlcomm.php no purge capability

Project:RUcore dlr/EDIT

Description

I was going in to manually delete resources from a collection, Virginia Tech Memorial Collection. When getting a list of resources and going to the Full Record view the option to purge is not available. There are other "Repository Administrator Functions" that are common to the other edit screens. Why no purge?

The purge functions are all under "Full Object Access" for both sqlcomm and solrsearch. It was designed this way to keep them from being accessed too easily.

I think this should be reconsidered. When purging a set of records from a collection that would require another click, which opens a separate window which leads to more clicks. The purge function on the "Full Object Access" screen does offer a "Are you sure" option which could also be implemented on the slqcomm screen.

We need a way to restrict access by privileges. We have implemented this in WMS and it works well. We need something similar in dlr/EDIT. I am moving to R7.4 since it is too late to implement it in this release.

I used to have the purge in sqlcomm with the warning. The link is still there even though commented out. Based on some early user experience, I thought it was rather too dangerous to have a purge so close to the surface. As for the restrictions, we do have the user level restrictions in authenticate. I was planning to migrate to the SSO, however, when that becomes a little more mature, probably for 7.4.

OK. I added back the old purge link to sqlcomm and one to solrsearch as well for level 1 users. The links are now highlighted in red to emphasize their dangerous nature. If it seems too dangerous, I can always comment them out again.
