Searching when terms have apostrophes

Project:RUcore SOLR Searching and Indexing
Category:bug report
Status:Moved to JIRA

From the VMC project we got the request to enable smarter indexing of words with apostrophes. Their example was a student has the name Stephanie and is often found in metadata as "Stephanie" and "Stephanie's" and the search for either "Stephanie" or "Stephanie's" should return the same results, but it doesn't. A good example of this on the test sysmte is the term "Baldwin's"

A title search for "Baldwin's" returns expected results.

A title search for "Baldwins" or "Baldwin" does not.

We started out being very conservative about stemming. I can look into loosening it up.

Version:7-x» 7.4

Moving to R7.4.

Version:7.4» 7.5

This is one of the tasks that we need the Solr VM to work on.

Version:7.5» 7.6

Still no Solr VM.

Will the new rep-temp.libraries VM fulfill this need?

Could SOLR being setup as multi-core to fulfill this need?

Hi Dave,

This should work as long as I have the ability to edit the schema.xml file and restart the Solr server for tests. A script to restart the server would be OK.

Dave gave me the password for rep-dev so I should be able to start experimenting for the next release.

Version:7.7» 8.1

The stemming issue still needs to be experimented with on rep-dev.

What is the status of this?

Version:8.1» 8.x

I was able to implement a number of other Solr changes, but the stemming issue still needs to be worked out.
