Moving to next release. This item needs input from CISC.

What question does CISC need to answer?

It has been so long I can't remember exactly what question that requires input from CISC. I think it has something to do with the size and format of video files. There was a discussion about people using iPhones these days to record and they may not in good, archival quality. I think that is why I added the comment.

Our current specification for video is to allow (require) the .mp4 format only for both preservation and presentation.

Our current specification for audio is to allow (require) .mp3 format only for presentation, and standard .wav or broadcast WAV .bwf for preservation.

Asking our Digital Data Curator to confirm, or modify, these requirements for faculty-deposit/self-deposit services.

Isaiah,

Has this been addressed?

The scholar deposit form lists "WAV file" but I could not get it to upload a WAV file.

This issue is tied to a much broader need: to provide a clearer location *on the RUcore website* to describe digital standards criteria. This issue is logged here: https://software.libraries.rutgers.edu/node/2056 However, progress has been slow pending further guidance from the committee tasked to redesign the website.

The current standards provide recommended formats and minimum preservations standards for multiple formats, including audio and video. However, per my broader descriptions regarding these standards:

"It’s important to note that these standards are recommended minimums. In other words, if you are preparing for a project and wish to follow our preservation standards, your project planning should take these recommendations into account. But this doesn’t mean that we will automatically reject digital objects outright for preservation purposes if they don’t meet the standards. For example: in cases where the digital copies are the best objects available, the objects are of high value, and the means to obtain a better digital copy don’t exist, it’s very likely that some requirements may be waived and “best-effort” preservation attempts will be applied. However, we cannot assure the longevity of such objects."

I am unable to change status on this task. Should it be closed/fixed?
