Uploading files with a period or space in the file name fails in WMS

Project:RUcore Workflow Management System (WMS)
Version:7.0
Component:File Upload Module
Category:feature request
Priority:normal
Assigned:yuyang
Status:closed
Description

This is going to become increasingly common now that all modern operating systems have gone beyond using the traditional .xxx file extension to identify the file type. Our cranberry genome datasets for instance have two extensions (.qual.gz and .csfasta.gz), both of which are required for proper file type and content identification.

No action has been taken specifically for this issue. Release 7.0 includes the new functionality that will automatically extract files in zip or gzip format into files of their original format. Hopefully this new functionality addresses the issue by itself. Otherwise reopen the bug and provide specifics. Test when release 7.0 moves to rep-devel/test site. -YY

This problem still exists. I uploaded a filename with two periods in WMS and PDF generation failed with the following error message:

File extenstion "0testsummary" is not the required type. The nameof the file I uploaded is: R4.0TestSummary.doc
